Halewood Wines Floarea Feteasca Neagra Wine 3 x 75cl

Joe Fattorini’s Tasting Note: “The “black maiden” Feteasca Neagra is Romania’s most prized indigenous red. A sort of hearty Pinot Noir I was once served this in old Tizer bottles in the immediate aftermath of Nicolae Ceaușescu’s rule. Like a rustic Pinot it’s a wine for earthy, savoury flavours, game pie, dark gravy, grilled cheese and roasted veg.”
A deep ruby red wine, aged in new oak barrels with an individual character, given by the most valued native Romanian grape variety, Feteasca Neagra.
This soft, complex wine presents aromas of prunes, raisins, with slight traces of spices (cinnamon, cloves).

Chateau Musar Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 75 cl

Joe’s Tasting Note: “It’s not the unique Cabernet Sauvignon blend that makes this special, or even coming from the Bekaa Valley. It’s Musar’s unique smokey, pungent twist on the cassis and currants of Cabernet; the added cigar box and prune aromas. One of the world’s great wines, thriving in a sometime war zone.
The Hochar family’s philosophy of respect for the environment means that the 180 hectares of Musar vineyards are managed with minimal human interference and all the wines are made as naturally.
The wine is shows impressive aromas of blueberries, ripe blackberries, cherries and plum fruitcake.

Meerlust Rubicon 2013 Wine, 75 cl

Joe Fattorini’s Tasting Note: “I have a real soft spot for Rubicon, a left-bank Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. This is still very young and the purple hue and bright fruit will withdraw, replaced by tobacco and cedar and a russet tinge. Today that sweetness matches with venison, but if 10 years, I’d be pairing this with a grouse or even a pheasant.”
The wine is aged for 21 months in 70 percent new French Nevers oak, 30 percent second fill Nevers and Alliers barrels
Deep in colour with a purple hue

It is nicely balanced with great fruit characters and a persistence of flavour.
